Hofstra Offers New Specialization within Masters in Journalism Program

Students Focus on Sports Journalism and Media

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University is enhancing its Masters in Journalism program by offering a new specialization in the curriculum focusing on Sports Writing, Journalism and the Media.

Students in the Masters in Journalism program will now be able to choose one of three specializations: Business Journalism, Health and Sciences Journalism and now Sports Journalism

“There is a greater need than ever for journalists who possess the depth of understanding and skills they need to do their jobs and the ethical grounding that is so necessary in this profession,” said Sybil DelGaudio, dean of the School of Communication

Courses in the sports journalism specialization will include journalism courses; Advanced Sports Writing and Media Relations Techniques for the Sports and Entertainment Industries as well as a business course; Sports and Entertainment Management, a Speech Communication course; Sports, Media and Society and also an Audio/Video/Film course; Media in Sports and Entertainment Industries.

The Masters in Journalism program targets not only working journalists who want an advanced degree but also undergraduates majoring in the sciences, public health, business and sports who want a career in specialized journalism; high school journalism teachers and advisors; and adults contemplating a career change.
