Hofstra's Spring 2010 "Great Writers, Great Readings" Series Continues with Author Mona Simpson

March 10, 2010, 7 p.m., Guthart Cultural Center Theater, South Campus

Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York ... Mona Simpson, author of Anywhere But Here, The Lost Father, A Regular Guy, Off Keck Road (finalist for PEN/Faulkner Prize) and the forthcoming My Hollywood, will be the next guest in Hofstra’s “Great Writers, Great Readings” Series on Wednesday, March 10, at 7 p.m. This free reading will take place at Hofstra’s Guthart Cultural Center Theater, located on the first floor of the Axinn Library, South Campus. Simpson was named one of Granta magazine’s Best Young American Novelists and has won several prestigious awards, including the Whiting Writers’ Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Hodder Fellowship at Princeton University, and the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Writers’ Award. Since 1988 she has taught at Bard College, where she is the Sadie Samuelson Levy Professor in Languages and Literature.

 “Great Writers, Great Readings” was launched by Hofstra University in recognition of the importance of writing and literature in a liberal arts education. In addition to a baccalaureate degree in English, Hofstra offers a Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing. The program’s faculty include eminent essayist Philip Lopate, writers Erik Brogger and Julia Markus and two Guggenheim Fellows: novelist Martha McPhee and poet Phillis Levin.
