Hofstra's Student Music Organization to Host Annual CMENC Conference March 19 and 20, 2010

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … This weekend Hofstra University’s student organization of music educators is hosting the 2010 CMENC Conference on Friday and Saturday March 19 to 20, 2010.  CMENC is the collegiate division of the National Association of Music Education.

The Hofstra CMENC Chapter 589 is planning an exciting weekend of workshops and presentations, including a jazz master class with pianist and Hofstra Professor Dave LaLama; conducting clinics for band with Mindy Dragovich of Wantagh HS; and choir with Hofstra professor Dave Fryling. There will be sessions in the music teaching methods of Orff by Brian Hiller and Don Dupont and Dalcroze with Gail Strauss. There will also be sessions on musical theater, high school theory, job hunting and more. 

Headlining the conference is keynote speaker Larry Eisman, Professor Emeritus of Music Education at Queens College, who has cultivated and trained hundreds of music educators in New York State for more than 30 years. More than 80 collegiate members from colleges and universities across New York State will attend this two-day conference. Hofstra’s CMENC chapter gives students opportunities for professional orientation and development. Every May, alumni from Hofstra’s Music Education program are invited back to campus for a forum where they can share their experiences and to help prepare current students for their teaching assignments.
