Hofstra University and Bindra Family Host Third Annual Vaisakhi Festival Dinner
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Ambassador Prabhu Dayal, consul general of India, will be the guest of honor at the third annual celebration of Vaisakhi presented by Hofstra and the Bindra family of Long Island on Saturday, April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus.
The celebration, which marks the birth of the Khalsa, the baptized Sikhs, will include dance performances by the Rutgers University team RU Bhangra, Geetinder Kaur, and the Chana Brothers, performing Punjabi classical music. Vaisakhi is also a harvest celebration in the Punjab region of India.
Along with Ambassador Dayal, Balbinder Singh Bhogal, Ph.D., professor of religion and the Sardarni Kuljit Kaur Bindra Chair in Sikh Studies at Hofstra University, and Tejinder Bindra, a member of the Hofstra Board of Trustees, will address the gathering.

Hofstra is also home to the Guru Nanak Interfaith Prize for inter-religious dialogue, endowed by the Bindra family, and the Sardarni Harbans Kaur Chair in Sikh Musicology, a gift from Hakam Singh, Ph.D.
