Hofstra University's Summer Session Courses Offer a Variety of Learning Experiences
54 classes to be offered online
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Classroom lectures, study abroad programs and exclusive online courses are among the many summer course offerings at Hofstra beginning May 20, 2009.Summer classes will be offered in three different sessions: May 20 through June 24, June 29 through July 31, and August 3 through August 21, 2009. Of the hundreds of courses being offered this summer, 54 of them will be offered online through distance learning.
“The major benefit of distance learning is that it can suspend time and space,” says Ronald Chalmers, senior instructional technologist at Hofstra. “Distance learning that is well done can provide experiences that on campus courses may not be able to, like learning with subject-matter experts who cannot physically come to a campus to meet with students.”
Students and faculty can log on to the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any time zone to study subjects such as anthropology, computer science, history, management, marketing and political science.
In January, 2008 Hofstra launched an online MS in Computer Science. The previous year, it began an online four-course graduate certificate for Teachers of Gifted and Talented in New York State. This will be second consecutive summer that online courses are being offered.
