Hofstra Entertainment Presents Two Original Theatrical Events

Fashion Statements! - April 19, 2007, 8 p.m.; "But When We Started Singing..." A Performance Inspired by the Life and Works of Primo Levi, April 26, 2007, 8 p.m.

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … In conjunction with conferences being held this spring at Hofstra University, Hofstra Entertainment will present two original theatrical productions.

Thursday, April 19, at 8 p.m. at Monroe Lecture Center Theater: Fashion Statements! Presented in conjunction with the Hofstra Cultural Center conference Defining Culture Through Dress: Individual and Collective Identities. Conceived and directed by Bob Spiotto with musical accompaniment and arrangements by Ben Malkevitch.

From the beginning of recorded time, fashion has always been in the minds and bodies of everyone from Ralph Waldo Emerson to Ralph Lauren; from Gloria Vanderbilt to Gloria Steinem; from Oscar Wilde to Oscar de la Renta. Literally, everyone has had something to say about fashion!

Fashion Statements! is a collage of voices that incorporates poetry, famous quotes, quips and anecdotes, as well as assorted literary excerpts and musical selections that focus on fashion. Tickets are $16 general admission; $13 for senior citizens and matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. One free ticket for members of the Hofstra community with a current HofstraCard.

Thursday, April 26, at 8 p.m. at the Emily and Jerry Spiegel Theater: “But When We Started Singing …” A Performance Inspired by the Life and Works of Primo Levi
Presented in conjunction with the Hofstra Cultural Center conference Answering Auschwitz: Primo Levi’s Science and Humanism After the Fall.

Conceived and performed by Bob Spiotto with musical accompaniment and original compositions by Herb Bradenstein, this performance is composed of literary excerpts and poetry, in both Italian and English. This powerful and unique theatrical collage pays tribute to a man who authored many books, essays and poems and became the conscience of a nation and an icon of the international human rights movement. Tickets are $16 general admission; $13 for senior citizens and matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. One free ticket for members of the Hofstra community with a current HofstraCard.
