Hofstra Honors Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Tour of China Town, Multicultural Film Series, Readings & Reception

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University honors Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a month devoted to celebrating the cultural traditions, ancestry, native languages, and unique experiences representing more than 47 ethnic groups from Asia and the Pacific Islands.

“We look forward to the month of April being a great month,” said Director for Multicultural & International Student Programs Ryan Greene. “Not only for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community on campus, but for every member of the Hofstra family interested in celebrating the rich & robust culture that the AAPI community  has contributed to our campus environment and our global society.”

From Swords to Skyscrapers, the Legacy of an Ancient Asian Steel
The legendary Damascus steel swords, famous for their reputed sharpness, flexibility, and attractive surface pattern were made in Central Asia and India for around 2,000 years. Nineteenth century European research on this steel directly led to the discovery of alloy steels, which are used all over the world today.

New York City China Town Walking Tour and Scavenger Hunt
If you are a Hofstra student and would like to go on this walking tour and scavenger hunt you must sign up in the Office of Multicultural and International Student Programs in Student Center Room 242.  Space is limited.

"The events planned for AAPI Heritage Month have been planned by Hofstra student groups, faculty departments, academic centers, and staff members in coordination with the Office of Multicultural & International Student Programs in the Division of Student Affairs so there was a holistic approach toward involving various members of the community to build a strong program that highlights and celebrates AAPI culture and heritage,” added Ryan Greene.
