Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Senior, Michael McCristall, an athletic training major, has qualified to compete at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s (NATA) Quiz Bowl on June 23, 2010 in Philadelphia, PA. The Quiz Bowl is a “Jeopardy” style competition where students answer questions about athletic training. In January, Michael, who is an exercise science minor, qualified for the National Quiz Bowl by placing second in the Eastern Athletic Training Association’s (EATA) District II competition, which includes New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The top three from each of the 10 regional districts compete at the National Quiz Bowl.
“When the Quiz Bowl started I was nervous and unsure how it would work, but once we got past a few questions, my competitive juices started flowing,” Michael said. “They periodically would show the scores and I really wanted to beat Stony Brook. The EATA competition was fun and challenging and I’m looking forward to competing in the NATA Quiz Bowl this summer.”
Michael has competed for Hofstra University’s Cross Country team the past four years and is currently doing an internship at Professional Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy in Garden City, New York. He will graduate from Hofstra in May of 2010. For more information about the EATA visit goeata.org and for the NATA visit nata.org
