The Hofstra University Museum Receives Funding To Support Upcoming Exhibition and Continue Family Programming

Funding Received From the New York Community Bank Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts & Astoria Federal Savings

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University Museum has received a $10,000 gift from New York Community Bank Foundation that helped to fund the exhibition, Soweto Art: From the Collection of Violet and Les Payne, as well as a gift of $5,000 from Astoria Federal Savings in support of the exhibitions 1930s Art in America and Burton Silverman: The Humanist Spirit scheduled for Fall 2011. The Museum also received over $8,300 in funding from the New York State Council on the Arts in support of its family program initiative The Great Art Capers Program for Families and Children.

 “We thank the New York Community Bank Foundation for this generous funding which assisted with the exhibition Soweto Art: From the Violet and Les Payne Collection. This exhibition underscores the Museum's mission to engage audiences with works of art that connect the world's cultures. Funding from Astoria Federal Savings provides essential support for two exhibitions, 1930s Art in America offered as a component of the celebration of Hofstra’s 75th Anniversary, and the forthcoming exhibit Burton Silverman: The Humanist Spirit which underscores the rich diversity of our American community,” said Executive Director of the Hofstra University Museum Beth E. Levinthal. “We are also honored to have received a grant of $8,307 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) in support of our family program, The Great Art Capers Program for Families and Children. This program utilizes the Museum’s exhibitions as a means of engaging families and children in looking more closely at works of art while uncovering clues to solve a mystery or reveal a message.”
