Hofstra Film Student Remembered Through Annual Telethon

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra’s School of Communication will air “The 6th Annual Friends of Max Ob Telethon” on April 29, 2007 from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Hofstra’s closed circuit television Channel 35 and at www.friendsofmaxkolb.com.

The Max Ob telethon as well as a Max Ob Scholarship was created to honor Hofstra film student Max Ob who passed away in 2001.  Max was a dean’s list student who was known through out the film department for his passion for film and his genuine personality. The telethon is created and worked entirely by Television Production students in Hofstra’s School of Communication.

This year’s telethon theme is Old Hollywood Glamour. Hofstra’s Studio A television studio in Dempster Hall will be turned into an old Hollywood night club with piano and lounge singer. There will also be a performance area which will bear a resemblance to a historic film editing bin and telethon phone operators will be taking calls from an antique style press box.  The show will include musical acts as well as student films.

“The students have worked incredibly hard this year,” said Dr. Peter Gershon, Professor in the Audio/Video/Film Department and faculty advisor for the telethon. “Their creativity and dedication to this production really brings back the spirit of Max Ob.”

Students are aiming to raise $3500 for the Max Ob Scholarship by auctioning off autograph books, photographs and CDs as well as comic books, sports memorabilia, and tickets to television show tapings in New York City.

All the proceeds from the telethon are contributed to the Max Ob Scholarship and awarded to students pursuing a degree in film production in Hofstra’s School of Communication.  Students are selected on the basis of financial need, talent in film studies, and overall academic achievement.
