Rona Woldenberg, MD, Appointed Assistant Dean of Admissions of Hofstra University School of Medicine in partnership with North Shore-LIJ Health System
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – School of Medicine Dean and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lawrence G. Smith has appointed Rona Woldenberg, M.D., as the Assistant Dean for Admissions of the Hofstra University School of Medicine in partnership with North Shore-LIJ Health System.A 1983 cum laude graduate of Princeton University, Dr. Rona Woldenberg received her medical education from the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine, where she was elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha. She currently sits on the Alumni Schools Committee of Princeton University and interviews prospective freshman.
Dr. Woldenberg completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital followed by a residency in Diagnostic Radiology, and a Chief Residency and Fellowship in Neurodradiology, all at North Shore University Hospital.
Currently Dr. Woldenberg is the Associate Chief of Neurodradiology and Associate Program Director in the Department of Radiology at North Shore University Hospital. She is also a past president of the Long Island Radiological Society and currently sits on their Executive Committee.
“Dr. Woldenberg is going to make a wonderful addition to the School of Medicine administration,” said Dean Lawrence Smith, M.D. “Her experience in the medical field and residency education will be a great asset to the School in identifying the next generation of highly qualified physicians and health care professionals.”
In 2007, Dr. Woldenberg was inducted into the fellowship of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and remains active within the organization. She serves as a Councilor to the ACR from New York State and is Editor-in-Chief of Case in Point, an online daily case presentation sponsored by ACR with over one hundred contributing institutions from around the world. Dr. Woldenberg also heads the Neurodradiology section of the Radiology in Training Examination sponsored by the ACR.
Established in partnership with the North Shore-LIJ Health System, the School of Medicine will be the first allopathic (MD) medical school in Nassau County – and the first on Long Island in more than 35 years. Plans to create the new school were announced in October 2007, with the first class expected to enter in the fall of 2011. The agreement received approval from the boards of both Hofstra University and North Shore-LIJ Health System in the past month, and is being signed today. Hofstra University School of Medicine in partnership with North Shore-LIJ Health System plans to admit its first class in 2011, subject to receiving preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and approval from New York State.
