Three Faculty Members to be Awarded Hofstra's Annual Stessin Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Publications

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra faculty members Rose Cuison Villazor, Dr. David Woolwine, and Dr. Richard T. Wilson have been named the 2010-2011 winners of the 27th Annual Lawrence A. Stessin Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Publications.

Rose Cuison Villazor, J.D., LL.M., an associate professor at Hofstra Law School, is receiving the prize for her publication “Rediscovering Oyama v. California:  At the Intersection of Property, Race and Citizenship," which appeared in the Washington University Law Review, Volume 87, No. 5, 979 (2010).

Richard T. Wilson, Ph.D., assistant professor, marketing and international Business, Frank G. Zarb School of Business, is receiving the Stessin Prize for “Competing Successfully against Multinationals:  A Longitudinal Perspective of Hungarian Advertising Agencies,” which appeared in the Journal of Strategic Marketing, Vol. 18, Issue 2, pp. 145-164 (2010).

David Woolwine, Ph.D., assistant professor and reference librarian, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, is being honored for his article, “Generic Versus Discipline-Specific Skills,” which appears in  Practising Information Literacy:  Bringing Theories of Learning, Practice and Information Literacy Together (edited by Lloyd, A. & Talja S.). Published by Wagga Wagga, N.S.W.: Centre for Information Studies, Charles Sturt University, 2010.

The Stessin recipients will be recognized at the 2011 Honors Convocation on May 22 at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus.

Dr. Stessin was a journalist who joined the Hofstra University faculty as a professor of management in 1958 and served continuously until his retirement in 1973. After graduation from the Columbia University School of Journalism he worked at The New York Times and as a columnist and later as an associate editor of Forbes Magazine. Dr. Stessin also published in a wide range of scholarly and academic media. During his lifetime and as part of his will, Dr. Stessin made substantial contributions to Hofstra University, including his contribution to the Endowment Fund, which led to the establishment of the Stessin Prize, an incentive and reward for junior faculty who publish the results of their scholarly work.
