Hofstra Students Compete in Film Festival for $6,000 in Industry Awards
29 student films to be featured May 17-18
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra film students will compete this week in the annual Hofstra Student Film Festival for $6,000 in industry awards from Kodak, Avid, Fuji, Final Draft, The Lab-Moving Image, Du-All Camera, Gotham Sound, Nice Shoes, TCI, and Tiffen Filters. All 29 films were produced in conjunction with film classes at the University’s School of Communication.
The festival will be held in the Student Center Theater, Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, north campus, at 7 p.m. each night. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
“Although most of the films are narrative, we also have experimental and documentary films this year. It's an exciting mix of films in a continuously growing film program,” said Prof. Phil Katzman, faculty advisor for the film festival.
The festival may be a viewing pleasure for audience members, but it is a competition for the student filmmakers. Awards will be handed out Friday night at the conclusion of the screenings for Best of Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Best Cinematography and Lighting, Best Editing, Best Screenplay and Best Director.
The judges for the competition are:
