In addition, an announcement ran in each of the student’s hometown newspapers announcing recognition for their achievement.

To be eligible, students must be juniors who are enrolled in chemistry or physics, math B, pre-calculus or above, and have demonstrated an interest in engineering and technology. Demonstrated interest may include presenting projects that feature engineering/technology at science-in-engineering competitions, participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition, or extracurricular clubs that feature engineering/technology, or taking a “Principles of Engineering” course.

A student may be nominated by one or more teachers in math, science or technology and/or a guidance counselor, along with approval by the school principal. This award recognizes work the student has already completed; no additional project or assignment is required.
