Hofstra Celebrates Homecoming "Great Moments in American History" Saturday, September 20, 2008

Special Events Also Include Alumni Awards Dinner (Friday, September 19)

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY: Come to the Hofstra University campus to enjoy the spirit and all the events of Homecoming on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The day begins with the Parade of Floats at 11 a.m., followed by Football Alumni Day and special recognition of the 1958 team at 11:30 a.m.

The Football game against the University of Rhode Island takes place at 1:30 p.m. (pregame show begins at
1 p.m.) at James M. Shuart Stadium, and the post-game party starts at 4 p.m.

Begins on Hofstra’s North Campus
Show your Hofstra pride and enjoy the parade of floats celebrating this year’s theme, “Great Moments in American History.”

Alumni Pride Tent, adjacent to James M. Shuart Stadium
Watch students perform skits celebrating the day’s theme, “Great Moments in American History” – a fun viewing for the entire family.

Catch Ed Fingerling, the 1988 Hofstra Football Co-Captain, sing the National Anthem, then cheer on the Pride at this year’s Homecoming football game vs. University of Rhode Island. 10 a.m. Hofstra Alumni Organization Book Club,
featuring a discussion and reading by Hofstra Professor Paula Uruburu. Dr. Uruburu is the author of the critically acclaimed American Eve: Evelyn Nesbit, Stanford White, the Birth of the “It” Girl and the Crime of the Century. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 16th Annual Italian Experience Festival.

11 a.m. Jewish Alumni Brunch sponsored by Hofstra Hillel.

1 p.m. Current Events Discussion with Hofstra Professor Emeritus Herb Rosenbaum.

Friday, September 19: Shabbat Dinner sponsored by Hofstra Hillel. 7 p.m. at the Plaza Rooms in the Mack Student Center. Join students and alumni for a festive Shabbat dinner experience. Reform and Conservative services will precede dinner at 6 p.m. in the Student Center, rooms 141 and 142, respectively. $18 per person (children 10 and under are free). Those wishing to attend both the Shabbat Dinner and the September 21 Jewish Alumni Brunch on September 21 may pay $28 per person total. September 19, 20 and 21: Hofstra Entertainment presents the musical 1776 at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse.
