Hofstra Celebrates Welcome Week '07

Hofstra Welcomes New Students with Multi-Day Educational and Social Programs Aimed at Introducing Them to the Hofstra Campus and New York

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra first year and transfer students arriving on campus tomorrow will be greeted by upper classmen, advisers, administrators and a host of activities aimed at easing their transition to college life.

Hofstra University’s 2007 Welcome Week is devoted to introducing new students and their parents to the Hofstra community. The week consists of events such as The President’s Welcome for students and parents and community building activities and bus trips to New York City for the students. Students will begin arriving on campus to move into their residence halls at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Some of the WelcomeWeek events are listed below and open to the Hofstra Community only.

Thursday August 30, 2007


8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Welcome Week Check In and Move In: The Netherlands

2 – 3 p.m. President’s Welcome: Adams Playhouse South Campus:  Join Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowiz, Vice President for Student Affairs Sandra Johnson and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Jessica Eads as they welcome all new students and families to Hofstra University.

4 - 5:30 p.m. Playfair Intramural Fields, North Campus: Have fun, engage in activities, build community and explore diversity.  Join classmates in exploring commonalities and differences.

6 – 7:30 p.m. Barbecue for the Class of 2011 Intramural Fields, North Campus: Enjoy great food and music with new friends.

Friday August 31, 2007

9:15 a.m. Provost Welcome Calkins Quad, South Campus:  Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Herman Berliner welcomes the class of 2011 and discusses academic integrity and expectations.

9: 30 a.m. – 1 p.m Meet your Dean Various Locations.: Come and learn about the Hofstra school that administers your major. This is a unique opportunity to meet the dean of your school and learn about the specifics of your degree requirements and the academic opportunities and resources available to you through the carious departments within your school.

11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Picnic Lunch Roosevelt Quad, South Campus: Take a break and enjoy lunch and an acoustic music performance.

2 – 5 p.m. Various Workshops Related to Academic and Social Aspects of Campus: Various Locations

Saturday September 1 and Sunday September 2, 2007

Discover New York City Hofstra Dome Parking Lot: Trips will depart to the following locations including the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park, NBC Studios, Yankee Stadium and many more.
