Hofstra to host first indoor/outdoor Arboretum Flower & Garden Show
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – "Harvest of the Arts and Flowers,” the first indoor/outdoor Hofstra University Arboretum Flower & Garden Show, will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 29 and 30, in and around the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus.
This year’s show is Hofstra’s sixth annual Flower & Garden Show, but the first to be held not only in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center but also outdoors on the Hofstra campus at various locations.
A standard flower show by the national award winning Second District Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, Inc. will be featured in the multi-purpose room. Informational booths featuring multiple horticultural clubs on Long Island and in the New York metropolitan area will be set up Student Center Atrium. The "greenmarket,” featuring local produce and plants, will be set up outside in the adjacent parking lot. Merchandise vendors will be inside the east and west plaza rooms and outside the main entrance to the Student Center. Vendors will feature fine flower and garden-related goods, craft products, and much more.
Other highlights include children’s activities, such as arts and crafts, music and a magic show. The Flower & Garden Show 2007 Lecture will be Vice President Al Gore's informational movie "An Inconvenient Truth," which focuses on the environment and the effects of global warming. The documentary will be shown in the Student Center Theater at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., each day. The Arboretum Flower & Garden Show is the only flower and garden show produced by a university in the metropolitan area, and it is the largest flower show held on Long Island. Tickets for the event are $5 and may be purchased at the entrance area. For further information, please call (516) 463-6504 or visit www.hofstra.edu/arboretum.
