Islanders Team up with WRHU 88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University as Flagship Radio Station
School of Communication Students To Be Involved in Broadcast and Behind the Scenes
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY– WRHU 88.7 FM, Radio Hofstra University and the New York Islanders announced a new radio broadcast agreement to broadcast all 82 Islander games during the 2010-11 National Hockey League season. As of now, 41 games are set to air on WRHU and the remainder to broadcast through the Islanders’ team web site. Former color commentator, Chris King will move over to the play-by-play position and various Hofstra students will have the opportunity to serve as the color analysts and sideline reporters throughout the season.“Radio Hofstra University and our students are elated to join in this unprecedented partnership between sports business and academic neighbors,” said Bruce Avery, WRHU General Manager.
The agreement gives WRHU exclusive radio rights to at least 41 games throughout the regular season. Islanders Radio veteran Chris King will produce the broadcasts and announce the games for WRHU. Hofstra University students will assist in the broadcast.
“We are excited to work with the Hofstra based radio station, WRHU, to not only broadcast Islanders game but provide opportunities for future members of the industry,” said Justin Johnson, Islanders Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships. “Hofstra has a terrific School of Communication and we are looking forward to the reflection of that in this season’s broadcasts.” School of Communication Dean Dr. Evan Cornog says: “WRHU is a college radio station that holds itself to the highest professional standards, so we are delighted to enter into this agreement with a great professional sports franchise, the New York Islanders.”
