The is the first time one of Hofstra’s student ensembles has been invited to perform at The Church of St. Rocco’s prestigious concert series.

The Hofstra Symphony Orchestra is one of the University’s major student music ensembles, comprising undergraduates and graduate level majors and non-majors. The Orchestra includes the full complement of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussions needed to present a variety of repertoire from the Baroque to the twenty-first century.  The Orchestra often collaborates with other department of music ensembles, from the University Mixed Chorus to the Jazz Ensemble, to provide the most comprehensive survey of orchestral literature for its players and audiences alike.

November 8 at 3 p.m.: Hofstra String Quartet. The Hofstra String Quartet performs music for string duos, trios and quartets by Boismortier, Bartok and Mozart. Location is 010 New Academic Building, South Campus. Tickets: $15 general admission and $12 senior citizen (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra student with ID.

November 20 at 8 p.m.: Hofstra Chamber Singers directed by David Fryling and the Nassau Community College Vocal Ensemble directed by Dan Hughes present Tanzen mit den Sternen - Songs of dance, featuring the elegant “Liebeslieder Waltzes” of Johannes Brahms and other pieces inspired by dance with Marilyn Lehman and Jisung Kim. Location is Christ Church Oyster Bay, 61 East Main Street, Oyster Bay, NY. Tickets: $10 general admission. Tickets go on sale November 3.

November 21 at 8 p.m.: The Hofstra Collegium Musicum, directed by William E. Hettrick presents “Harmony of the Spheres,” a concert of celestial early music featuring the vocal and instrumental ensembles of the Hofstra Collegium Musicum and the Hofstra String Orchestra directed by David Ramael. Location: First Presbyterian Church, 182 First Street, Mineola, NY. Tickets: $10 general admission and $ 8 senior citizen (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra student with ID. November 22 at 7 p.m.: Hofstra Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Lalama, performs “A Tribute to the Masters,” with guest artist Ted Nash from the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. This will be an evening of traditional and contemporary Jazz compositions and arrangements for Big Band and Nonet. Monroe Lecture Center Theater California Avenue, South Campus. December 5 at 8 p.m.: Hofstra Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, directed by Peter Loel Boonshaft., A program of traditional and contemporary works for wind band.
