November 21 at 8 p.m., Featuring Musicians from the Alan Parsons Project
THERE ARE NO MORE TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … To commemorate pop superstar George Harrison’s death in 2001, musicians from the Alan Parsons Project band will take the stage at Hofstra University’s Monroe Lecture Center Theater on Friday, November 21, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. This tribute concert and power point show delves into Harrison’s spiritualism and humanitarian interests. The former Beatle and environmental activist passed away from cancer in November 2001.
Admission to the program, which starts at 8 p.m., is free to the Hofstra community and the public, but advance online registration is required. To register online:
1) Direct link: https://ebill.hofstra.edu/C20848_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=195&SINGLESTORE=true
2) Go to www.hofstra.edu/marketplace, then click on "School of University Studies" and then click on "concerts".
To present Harrison’s legacy, Hofstra’s School of University Studies has invited the University’s Hinduism instructor, Joshua M. Greene, to officiate. Greene studied yoga with Harrison in the early 1970s and is author of the bestselling biography Here Comes the Sun. Apart from his duties at Hofstra, Greene teaches philosophy at Jivamukti Yoga School and Integral Yoga in Manhattan.
A similar concert was performed at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania last year. “Many of my students were unaware of the depth of Harrison’s spiritual commitment,” said Professor Jeffery Long, who sponsored that event. “They were deeply moved. The music was fantastic, and the talk was a revelation to those who knew Harrison only as a popular musician.”
Leading the band is popular singer-guitarist Godfrey Townsend, who has performed with such rock greats as Jack Bruce from Cream and John Entwistle from The Who. The band also features Long Island professionals Tommy Williams and John Montagna on guitar and Mike Bellusci on drums.
