NYU LAW PROFESSOR NOAH FELDMAN TO DELIVER FOURTH HONORS COLLEGE STATE OF THE UNION LECTURE

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY - New York University School of Law Professor Noah Feldman, whose books address issues of religion and government, Islamic democracy, and war and nation building in Iraq, will deliver the fourth Arnold A. Saltzman Lecture on the State of the Union, presented by Hofstra University Honors College.

The address will take place on Tuesday, November 7 at 4 p.m. in the Monroe Lecture Center Theater, California Avenue, South Campus.

An informal reception will follow the address in the lobby of C.V. Starr Hall next to the Monroe Lecture Center. Copies of Professor Feldman's books will be available for purchase at the reception.

The State of the Union Lecture series was conceived of and endowed by Ambassador Saltzman, who has served the government in policy level diplomatic and economic assignments in five U.S.presidencies, including as chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee on National Growth and Development. He is a Hofstra trustee emeritus.

Professor Feldman is the Cecelia Goetz Professor of Law at New York University School of Law. He holds an A.B. from Harvard University (Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations), a D. Phil. from Oxford University (Islamic Political Thought), and a J. D. from Yale Law School. He was a Carnegie Scholar in 2005.

Professor Feldman's many publications include Divided by God: America's Church-State Problem  and What We Should Do About It (Farrar Straus & Giroux, 2005); What We Owe Iraq: War and the Ethics of Nation-Building (Princeton University Press, 2004); and After Jihad: America and the Struggle for Islamic Democracy (Princeton University Press, 2003). He has also published on the establishment clause and on translations of Averroes' Commentary on the Nicomachean Ethics.

Prior to his appointment to the Goetz Chair at NYU, Professor Feldman held visiting appointments at Yale Law School and Harvard Law School.  In 2003, he served as senior advisor for Constitutional law to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq.
