Distinguished Professorship Established in Honor of Robert E. Brockway '46

Former Hofstra marketing professor, Board of Trustees member and executive-in-residence honored by his son

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – The Robert E. Brockway '46 Endowed Distinguished Professorship in Marketing has been established at Hofstra in honor of the former Hofstra marketing professor and Board of Trustees member.

The new distinguished professorship, which was endowed by Mr. Brockway's son, Peter C. Brockway, will be formally announced on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 3 p.m. in the Rochelle and Irwin A. Lowenfeld Conference and Exhibition Hall, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, 10th Floor, south campus. This distinguished professorship was established to recognize an outstanding record of teaching and scholarship in Hofstra's Department of Marketing and International Business.

"The endowment of this distinguished professorship continues the Brockway family’s long and supportive association with Hofstra University," said Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz. "Their continued commitment and generosity to Hofstra is an example of why our alumni are so important to the University’s future."

"Robert Brockway has been a major presence at the Zarb School of Business and at Hofstra for decades and through his scholarship, commitment and generosity has demonstrated his belief in the academic excellence of the business school and Hofstra University," said Zarb School Dean Salvador F. Sodano.

Robert E. Brockway is an alumnus and a trustee emeritus of the Hofstra University Board of Trustees, having served on the board from October 1984 to January 1995. At the Zarb School of Business, he was a professor of marketing, a senior executive in residence and a special assistant to the dean. Mr. Brockway’s business career includes serving as vice president of marketing for Sylvania Electric, vice president and general manager of Manhattan Cable Television, president of the CBS Video Recording Division, president of Polygram Corporation, and chairman and CEO of Olympus Corporation, from which he is retired.

Peter C. Brockway has more than 20 years experience in private equity investing. He has successfully partnered with numerous consumer product, industrial and retail businesses and their management teams to significantly expand these enterprises. He serves as chairman of Woodstream Corporation and director of MW Industries, Inc. He has served as chairman of the board of Gold's Gym International, Inc., Norwesco, Inc. and Penda Corporation, and as a director of ElectroStar, Inc. and Sun Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. He earned a BBA from Stetson University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

The Brockway family has a long history with Hofstra University and has maintained close ties with the school. The senior Mr. Brockway met his wife, Hope (Morehouse) Brockway '45, at Hofstra. During World War II, while her husband was overseas, Hope Brockway wrote a column for The Chronicle, served on the Student Council, was president of Seawana sorority and secretary of the Kate Mason Society, and was a member of the Honor Court. Robert Brockway is a past winner of the Hofstra Alumnus of the Year Award. On May 20, 2006, the couple was honored with the Marjorie and James M. Shuart Alumni Family Award for their many years of service and friendship to the University. A month later, the Brockways celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
