2011 ECONOMIC UPDATE

International Scene Lecture Series debuts with talk on U.S. Economy

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY -- Hofstra's International Scene Lecture Series for the Fall 2011 semester will examine a wide range of foreign and domestic policy issues, kicking off with a Sept. 14, 2011 lecture about the American economy.

The four-lecture series aims to present diverse views, and stimulate conversation and debate among students and the Hofstra community. All events will take place at the Leo A. Guthart Theater, Axinn Library, from  11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except as noted. Admission is free and open to the public. There will be a question and answer period following each lecture.

Update on the American Economy, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, with Max Fraad Wolff, economist, New School Program in International Affairs,

International Law and 21st Century Warfare, Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, featuring Richard Falk, emeritus professor of international law, Princeton University; former Vermont Gov. and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard B. Dean III and Republican strategist Edward J. Rollins, senior presidential fellows, Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, Hofstra University.

The International Day of Non-Violence, Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with Chris Hedges, author and former New York Times reporter

Afghanistan – America’s Longest War, Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 with Anand Gopal, author and former Wall Street Journal reporter.
