A Fund-Raising Performance Created in Support of Women and Teen Personal Safety Awareness Initiatives
Just Added to the Evening's Lineup: Talk Show Host Steve Wilkos
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … Hofstra Entertainment in cooperation with the National Organization for Women's Safety Awareness (NOWSA) and Hofstra Entertainment present "Voices For A Cause," a unique fund-raising performance directed by Bob Spiotto, executive producer, Hofstra Entertainment. The event takes place on Saturday, November 13, at 8 p.m. at Hofstra University's Helene Fortunoff Theater at Monroe Lecture Center, California Avenue, South Campus.
Tickets are $75 for reserved seating and $100 for VIP seating. Matriculated students may pay $20 for one ticket upon presentation of student ID. Members of the Hofstra community receive one free ticket with current HofstraCard. For more information call the Hofstra Box Office at (516) 463-6644 or visit www.hofstra.edu/hofstraentertainment.
Steve Wilkos, host of NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution's nationally syndicated series "The Steve Wilkos Show," will be among the special guests participating in the evening's program. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Chicago Police Department, Wilkos filled in for Jerry Springer as host of the long-running "The Jerry Springer Show" on more than 50 episodes, using his law enforcement background and no-nonsense style to create his own identity as a talk show host. In 2007 "The Steve Wilkos Show" premiered to high ratings. Wilkos has been visiting college campuses in recent months to talk about safety issues for women and young people.
Other highlights of "Voices for a Cause" include a premiere musical performance by the all-female jazz ensemble "MsDemeanor;" Hofstra's own highly entertaining a cappella group "Sigma'Cappella" and students from Hofstra's Department of Drama and Dance sharing powerful, touching, and inspiring interpretations of victims' stories. Special dedication is expected of a Legislative Resolution commemorating Governor David A. Paterson's proclamation designating November 1-7, 2010, as Teen Personal Safety Awareness Week in the State of New York. The event will include commentary by Karen O' Callaghan, Hofstra's new director of Public Safety.
Sponsors for the fundraising performance include Hofstra University, Everything Lidia, Inc., Asset Graphics, Inc., Union Square Advertising, Zayas Design, Getzel, Schiff & Ross, LLP, Kushnick & Associates, PC and Goldsmith & Tortora, Esqs. All proceeds from Voices for a Cause will support the NOWSA's safety awareness education and advocacy programs.
