Industry Awareness Through Social Media

Zarb Marketing & International Business Department Develops Social Media Tools to Enhance Students’ Academic Experience

Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York –The Frank G. Zarb School of Business’s Marketing & International Business Department begins the Fall 2011 semester with not only a new website design but a plethora of social media tools including two Facebook pages, two  department blogs and a LinkedIn profile providing students with new outlets for department news, industry trends & discussions, and networking opportunities.

“Social  media are becoming a bigger part of our lives. So, with that in mind, the Department of Marketing and International Business under the leadership of Dr. Joel Evans, RMI Distinguished Professor, and the support of other departmental faculty developed several social media sites to communicate with our students and keep them excited about Hofstra and their studies,” said Professor and Chairperson of the Marketing & International Business Department Dr. Benny Barak. “Our Facebook profiles will keep student up to date on everything within the department from events to academic deadlines to professional clubs and career advice. Our blogs are intended to provide a forum for issues related to the marketing and international business profession and various related topics. We welcome comments and suggestions, and hope that the blog will become a valuable resource for the Hofstra marketing community. The LinkedIn profile is the official professional group of our department. It is a great opportunity for ongoing communication and networking interaction – professionally and socially – for our students.”

Dr. Evans has also organized a special social media event for marketing alumni entitled, the New Rules of Marketing, Participate or Perish, on November 16, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Mack Student Center, Multipurpose Room, north campus.

Department of Marketing & International Business

In a dynamic global environment that affects every aspect of international and domestic companies, it is critical that business students are exposed to the complexities and challenges faced by these companies.
