Frank G. Zarb School of Business Students Take Top Honors at National Competition

National Association of Black Accountants Student Chapter Reporting & Evaluation Program

Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York – The Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University’s students took top honors in the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Student Chapter Reporting & Evaluation Program (SCREP).

“This honor has everything to do with our chapter's present leadership under Chapter President Brittany Hinds and our present executive board,” said Professor Eugene Maccarrone, Chapter Advisor.  “Our NABA division, Division III, is for schools like Hofstra, that have relatively small minority student populations, and so at any given time there can be an abundance of chapters in our division which makes the competition quite rigorous. I am personally very proud of these students and our 2011 chapter!”

SCREP  is a national program that is required by all NABA student chapters to report on the activities that take place within their chapter. The SCREP package has three reporting periods per fiscal year during which the student chapter submits a package including documents that represent the events a chapter has sponsored during the given time frame. For example,  if a chapter has a resume-building workshop they would provide two supporting documents to prove that the event took place, and that at least five NABA members attended. To prove that, the chapter would include a sign-in sheet and a flier or e-mail stating the details of the event. Each type of event has a point value - an executive board meeting, for example, is worth 20 points; a membership development meeting would be worth 100 points.

Points are awarded based on the documents included in each package, and each document has a specific point value.  The packages are reviewed by judges who are all NABA professional members. The judges award points based on several measures, including whether a chapter has included all the supporting documents for each event in its package if all documents are in the correct category and have the proper point value.
