The Hofstra Dance Program Presents Its 2008 Fall Dance Concert: "Women's Works"

November 20 to 23, 2008, at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY: Hofstra University’s annual Fall Faculty Dance Concert, will be held November 20 to 23, 2008, at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse. Tickets are $12, $10 for senior citizens and matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Members of the Hofstra community may receive one free ticket upon presentation of a current HofstraCard. This year's annual Fall Dance Concert highlights premieres and reconstructions by six women choreographers whose individual styles will create an exciting evening of dance theatre.  Hofstra dance majors will appear in works by special guest artist Judith Moss, as well as faculty choreographers: Rachel List, Dyane Harvey-Salaam, Teresa Perez, Maxine Steinman and Karla Wolfangle.

Judith Moss, a choreographer of over forty works, has created a premiere that alters the space through the layering of visual images and constantly shifting movement patterns.  Ms. Moss has performed with the Paul Sanasardo Company, Dan Wagoner and Dancers, and now choreographs and gives residencies throughout the world.

Rachel List, well known ballet teacher and Baroque dancer, has created a new work titled Box Fugue, to original music by composer Michael Sansonia.  The constantly changing designs of the piece create an effect similar to turning the lens of a kaleidoscope.

Dyane Harvey-Salaam will present The Corner, commissioned by the Hofstra Museum for the Emily Lowe Gallery's current exhibition of photographs from the life of the great boxer, Muhammad Ali.

Jazz dance teacher Teresa Perez has created an entertaining and challenging jazz work for the Hofstra students. 

Maxine Steinman, modern dance teacher at the Limon Institute, brilliantly combines the classical music of J.S. Bach with her unique style of modern dance. 

Blue Feet, by former Taylor dancer Karla Wolfangle, is a dance about the strange energy one feels as part of New York's street at night, and promises to bring laughter to the dance concert.
