ENGINEERING STUDENTS DESIGN AND BUILD A CAR
Capstone project was a natural for friends & fellow car fanatics
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY - Two Hofstra mechanical engineering seniors have built their dream car, merging their personal passion with their final engineering design project.

On Wednesday, Dec. 13, when Hofstra engineering seniors present their final, or capstone, design projects before fellow students and faculty, Eyal Angel and Seth Rosenberg will conclude their presentation by taking some of their professors for a spin around the parking lot. All engineering students take part in a senior research and design experience as a part of their capstone project.
"This is what we would like to see in our senior designs, our students creating their own projects," said Dr. Richard Jensen, associate professor of engineering at Hofstra. "These students wanted to have something to remember Hofstra by."
Eyal, 23, of Plainview and Seth, 21, of East Meadow, began building the car over the summer at Angel's parents' home, knowing they would need more time than the fall semester. Eyal described the car as a Formula One-type sports car, light weight and with a powerful engine.
"The day after finals ended last semester, Seth and I were in school designing the car," said Eyal, adding that both he and Seth are car fanatics and had talked about building a car for their senior design project since they were freshmen. Building the car gave them a hands-on experience of applying what they had learned in mechanical engineering.
Hofstra University's Department of Engineering offers undergraduate degree programs in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer engineering, civil engineering, and biomedical engineering. The department is unique in that it focuses solely on the education of undergraduate engineering students.
Hofstra University is a dynamic private institution where students find their edge to succeed in more than 140 undergraduate and 150 graduate programs in liberal arts and sciences, business, communication, education and allied human services, and honors studies, as well as a School of Law. Our professors teach small classes averaging 25 students that emphasize interaction, critical thinking and analysis.
