What it is.
The "Grad PLUS" loan (not to be confused with the PLUS loan for parents of college students), is a federal loan that can be used to supplement the unsubsidized Federal Stafford loan. Here's what you need to do to apply for a Graduate Plus Loan:
Graduate students are not automatically offered a Graduate PLUS loan in their financial aid package. If a student wishes to borrow a Graduate PLUS loan, he/she would will need to complete the Grad PLUS application on www.studentloans.gov or send a written request to his or her SFS counselor. The student must also complete a new Master Promissory Note (MPN) with the U.S. Department of Education and complete a new entrance counseling session. Both can be completed at www.studentloans.gov. Under "Manage My Direct Loan", click on "Sign In" to complete the MPN and entrance counseling session. Note: You will need a federal PIN to complete this process.
