Since 2012 Hofstra has hosted the Long Island Regional Scripps Spelling Bee. To date over 300 of the area’s top spellers have competed on the stage of John Cranford Adams Playhouse with the hopes of making it to the National Scripps Spelling Bee. Each spring the winners of the regional competitions, which in 2014 was over 280 contestants, compete in Washington D.C. for the title of National Scripps Spelling Bee champion.
