Senior Class Toast

Seniors (undergraduates) graduating in May 2017 and December 2017 and their family members are cordially invited to Hofstra's Toast to the Class of 2017 on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Main Dining Room, David S. Mack Student Student Center, North Campus.

Attire is business casual.

The maximum number of guests per student is 2, due to space limitations.

2016-17 Steps to Graduation for Seniors

Congratulations, you’re almost a Hofstra graduate! You should receive necessary steps toward graduation several times through your Hofstra Pride email account. Please keep a close eye on your inbox so you don’t miss any information. In addition, here is a summary of steps toward graduation:


APPLY FOR GRADUATION

Once your complete 90 credits (attain a senior status) you are emailed and told to apply for graduation. Deadlines to apply for graduation are:

For Spring (May) Graduation: Candidates must file by October 1. If the application is received after October 1, there is a $25 fee. If the application is received later than March 1, there is a $50 fee.
 
For August Graduation: Candidates must file by March 1. If the application is received after March 1, there is a $25 fee. If the application is received later than August 15, there is a $50 fee.
 
For Midyear (December) Graduation: Candidates must file by May 1. If the application is received after May 1, there is a $25 fee. If the application is received after October 1, there is a $50 fee.
 
If you believe you have senior status and have not received any notifications about graduation, please contact your advising dean. It is also good to check your Degree Works audit, available through the portal. The Center for University Advising is located in 101 Memorial Hall; their phone is 516-463-6770.
 


CAPS AND GOWNS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, RINGS, …

The Commencement Office sends several e-mails to graduating seniors about graduation fairs and commencements. At the graduation fair, students will have the opportunity to order their caps and gowns, order rings and announcements and make appointments for yearbook pictures.
 

  • The Spring 2017 Commencement Graduation Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29, 2017, in the Mack Student Center Atrium/Bookstore from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Midyear 2017  Commencement Graduation Fair is TBA.

Academic attire can be ordered through the portal. To confirm graduation ceremony attendance and order caps and gowns, visit hofstra.edu/academicattire. Follow the easy online instructions, carefully check the order, and click submit. An order confirmation and your graduation information will display.

The deadline to order academic attire for the Spring 2017 Commencement is Friday, April 15, 2017. The deadline to order academic attire  for the Midyear (December) 2017 Commencement  is TBA. 

Robe Distribution for Spring 2017 Commencement will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 17 and May 18, 2017 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the lower level of the Bookstore located in the Mack Student Center. Robe Distribution for Midyear (December) 2017 will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, December 13 and December 14, 2017 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the lower level of the Bookstore located in the Mack Student Center.

  • Bring you Hofstra ID card to pick up the cap and gown. There is no fee for the cap and gown and the gown is yours to keep.

YEARBOOK PHOTOS

Your graduating seniors should also check their Hofstra pride e-mail accounts to learn the dates for the Nexus Yearbook photo sessions. Visit http://appointments.islandphoto.com to sign up for an appointment. You will have an opportunity to schedule yearbook pictures at a graduation fair.

  • Yearbook photos will be offered on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11, 2017 and Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
  • Your photo sitting fee includes a free Nexus Yearbook!

COMMENCEMENT DATES

The Spring 2017 Undergraduate  Commencement Ceremony is scheduled  for  Sunday, May 21, 2017  at  9 a.m. for  Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Education, and School of Health Professions and Human Services and at 1 p.m. for  Frank G. Zarb School of Business, The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication and Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science.

The Midyear Commencement is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 7 pm.

COMMENCEMENT TICKETS

SPRING COMMENCEMENT TICKETS
Each undergraduate student will receive 6 assigned seat tickets.  Requests for additional tickets can be obtained by placing student’s name on a lottery list during robe distribution, which will take place Wednesday and Thursday, May 17 and May 18, 2017 located in the lower level of the Bookstore in the Mack Student Center  between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
 
All undergraduates may request as many additional tickets as desired but when the lottery is conducted, each recipient will only be awarded 2 tickets. Once everyone on the list has been awarded 2 tickets and additional tickets remain, then the lottery will be conducted again using the same method only 2 tickets will be awarded. Lottery winners will be notified by EMAIL on their Hofstra email account beginning Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10 a.m.
 
Lottery winners must either respond to the email that they will take the tickets.  If there is no response within 2 hours, the tickets will be awarded to the next person on the lottery list.
 
All tickets must be picked up by the requesting student at the reception desk located in the Mack Student Center, room 112 by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017.
 
When you meet with your advising dean, you are advised of all graduation deadlines. It is very important for you to meet with your advising dean regularly, even in the junior and senior year. If you don’t know your advising dean’s name, they can find it on their Degree Works audit report in the portal; you can also email advising[at]hofstra.edu

MIDYEAR COMMENCEMENT TICKETS

SENIOR PROGRAMS

The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement offers a number of events for seniors to take advantage of during the year.
The How to Adult series offers workshops on practical life skills that will help you after graduation such as renting an apartment, healthcare, job benefits and retirement plans, and more! We will also host networking opportunities with recent alumni.

The Senior Class Toast is a chance to gather your family and raise a glass to the Class of 2017 alongside President Rabinowitz, faculty, staff, and of course, your fellow graduates! Save the date: May 19th, 2017.

February 10, 2017  Friday 100 Days to Graduation: Please join us on Friday, February 10, 2017 in the Student Center Atrium from 12:00PM-2:00PM (stop by anytime between those hours). The first 100 people to arrive will receive a Class of 2017 mason jar tumbler! This event will feature activities to commemorate and celebrate your time at Hofstra, graduation checks from the Center for University Advising, graduation gown samples for you to try on for size, plenty of photo ops, and FREE food. The Hofstra University Bookstore is also sponsoring a diploma frame raffle! Bring your friends and kick off the countdown to commencement with us!
February 22, 2017  Wednesday How to Adult - Renting an Apartment in NYC: Join us on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in Student Center Plaza Middle for a special presentation by Cooper + Cooper Real Estate to help demystify the apartment hunting process for after graduation. They'll go over the different types of apartments in the city, what the real estate market is like, and how to prepare yourself for the hunt!
