Office of Certification and Educational Support Services
Our purpose is to avail students with access to program and credentialing information and services at their convenience through technological enhancements. To provide information, support and resources to students and faculty engaged in initial and professional school-based programs for classroom, pupil services and educational leadership roles.
Our aim is to support faculty in the development of degree programs which address certification shortage areas by providing quality alternative certification programs and a “second” certification programs. To ensure the School's compliance with regulatory requirements in support of state and Federal initiatives through program registration and changes.

ALST Eliminated
At its March 13, 2017 meeting, the Board of Regents eliminated the requirement for candidates to take and pass the Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), or use the safety net, in order to obtain an Initial classroom teaching certificate.

Safety Nets for Educating All Students test (EAS), and certain redeveloped Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) and edTPA
The Board of Regents, by emergency regulation, created safety nets for the Educating All Students test (EAS), and certain redeveloped Content Specialty Tests (CSTs).

These safety nets for the EAS and most CST's will be effective through June 30, 2017. If necessary, candidates may take advantage of multiple safety nets in order to meet the requirements for certification and will have until June 30, 2018, one year later, to meet all other certification requirements.
EdTPA Safty Net
The edTPA safety net allows a candidate who applies for and meets all certification requirements for the initial certificate on, or before, June 30, 2018, except he/she took and did not receive a passing score3 on the required edTPA or before June 30, 2018, or until the date a new passing score on the edTPA is approved by the Commissioner, whichever is earlier, to either:
- use a passing score on an ATS-W taken on, or before, April 30, 2014 (before the new certification examination requirements became effective), or
- use a passing score on an ATS-W taken on, or before, June 30, 2018 or until the date a new passing score on the edTPA is approved by the Commissioner, whichever is earlier, and after receipt of a failing numeric score on the edTPA or an "Incomplete"(I) with a numeric score on one or more task totals.
