Chair's Welcome

The Department of Teaching, Learning & Technology Programs (TLT) faculty and I welcome you to an educational experience that will support your personal and professional growth as an educator.  We are dedicated to the preparation of individuals who desire to fulfill their aspirations to teach children from pre-kindergarten through high school.  Our teacher preparation programs continue to undergo structural changes to meet the challenges novice teachers confront with new testing requirements and changing teacher roles and responsibilities.  We are focused on the development of positive attitudes, dispositions, and the competency to successfully educate children with diverse backgrounds. Our graduates are artists and scholars who reflect on their practice, are dedicated to their students, their disciplines, and to teaching and learning. We value a pedagogy that is participatory, dialogical and reciprocal.

We believe that exceptional teachers are born with personality characteristics that are developed by experience and enhanced by content provided by a dynamic preparation program. To this end our programs are enhanced through processes of course syllabi revisions, the integration of diverse field practicums, and by the addition of new courses.  We continually are revising and strengthening our programs to meet new and emerging state standards.  We have participated this year in a rigorous accreditation through TEAC of all Teaching, Learning & Technology Programs (TLT) to confirm our productivity and the quality of our graduates.  In addition, we have established an assessment committee that reviews all required performance tasks completed by our teacher education candidates and analyzes results on an annual basis.

Our outstanding faculty is well known for their expertise in various areas within the field. Several have written nationally adopted textbooks while others have published in respected research and practitioner journals. All faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, and in supporting you emotionally and educationally as you progress through our programs.

All of our Teaching, Learning & Technology Programs (TLT) maintain and cultivate partnerships with public and private schools.  Our students are required to complete early field experiences in school settings prior to student teaching. We use program advisory committees comprised of practicing teachers and administrators to continually monitor and evaluate our program offerings.

We invite, and encourage you, to explore our web site.  Please feel free to contact me or any of the program directors for more information about our programs.  We look forward to hearing from you.
