Community Outreach Service Opportunities

Below you will find a sampling of many of our annual service opportunities. If you would like to be involved in additional community service and meet other students who are also interested, we encourage you to check out our student-run student organizations. You can browse student organizations on GetinvolvedHU. If you have any additional questions, email us at CommunityOutreach@hofstra.edu or 516-463-3469.

American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Relay for Life is a fun event that has performances, fundraisers, and activities throughout the night to raise money for cancer research and patients. We honor cancer survivors and caregivers, and remember the ones we have lost to cancer.

Breakfast Run

Join the Hofstra community to bring meals, toiletries, and other basic supplies to individuals in need of housing throughout Manhattan. Transportation is provided for all students who are participating.

Fulton Manor Clothing and Toy Drive

Every holiday season, the Office of Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach works with the Hempstead Fulton Manor to make sure that children receive gifts during the holidays. Each participant gives a child one toy and one practical item, such as a scarf, hat, gloves, etc. The gifts are delivered with the help of the Commuting Student Association.

Mary Brennan Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) Soup Kitchen

Every semester, Hofstra students are encouraged to give the gift of a hot meal to the patrons of the Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen. Students will also be assisting with stocking the food pantry and sorting through clothing donations.

New York Marine Rescue Center

During spring break, help with morning feeding and get hands-on, seal capture training in Riverhead, NY.

Pride and Plant

This annual event helps brighten up the yards of our neighbors by volunteering to plant colorful flowers in the community after a long, cold winter.

Shake-A-Rake

Every fall, Hofstra students assist local community members by offering to rake lawns in preparation for the winter.

SMART Program Visits

Serve as a mentor to children from the SMART program at the St. Martin de Porres Marianist School in Uniondale by assisting with homework and engaging in fun activities. Transportation to and from the program is provided.
