Hofstra University is engaged in major construction, renovation and planning projects campus-wide. See a complete listing below. The outline of the first year Dining Services project completions is located on the Dining Services website.

Building and Construction Projects

Recently Completed

  • Business School Building
    The new 52,000 square foot building adjacent to CV Starr Hall opened in December 2018.  The building houses the Frank G. Zarb School of Business departments, student collaborative and study space, labs, School of Business career and admissions services, and the Center for Entrepreneurship and IdeaHUb. Expanded parking area and large entrance plaza and walkway were  included in the project.  Visit the School of Business website for more information.
  • Physical Education Building Second Floor
    The second-floor renovations provided new space for the School of Health Professions and Human Services including four new classroom spaces, computer lab and faculty offices, with new floor, ceiling, lighting and audio-visual and information technology.
  • John Cranford Adams Playhouse
    The complete renovation of the interior theater, upgrade of the building infrastructure and expansion of the entrance lobby was completed in Fall 2017. The theater was named for benefactors Toni and Martin Sosnoff.
  • Dunkin Donuts- The conversion of the Café on the Quad dining facility to a fully licensed Dunkin Donuts franchise was opened in March 2018 in Roosevelt Quad.
  • CV Starr Hall Renovations and introduction of Einstein's Bagels.
  • Addition of lounge furnishings throughout Academic and Residential areas to increase the number of student study/social spaces.
  • Student Center Renovations and Bank Closure
    During the Summer of 2019, the Student Center was renovated to improve the dining and gathering space, including the addition of a Starbucks Licensed Store and Brooklyn Slice Pizza. As part of these renovations, the TD bank located in the Student Center Atrium was closed. ATMS will remain available for your convenience in the Student Center, in an ATM hub located near Events Management. There is also a Citibank ATM in the vestibule outside Hammer Lab in the Axinn Library side of the Unispan.


  • Environment Assessment Review for proposed new School of Engineering
  • The University initiated a full environmental review with traffic study for the proposed new School of Engineering building to be located on the east campus. Request for Proposals for design services to begin in Summer 2019.
  • Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library HVAC Systems
    A two-year project is underway to replace Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning piping throughout the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library. Expected completion is Spring 2019.
  • Planning phase is underway for a new Starbucks Store in the David S. Mack Student Center Atrium.
  • Weller Hall Renovation
    Hofstra University is currently planning to transform Weller Hall into a new facility to accommodate the International Center for our new educational partner INTO and a new center campus location for the Hofstra Career Center.
    Weller Hall was constructed in 1962 and was most recently home to the Hofstra School of Business (SOB) administrative and faculty offices, and a computer training center.  The existing building space will be designed and renovated to accommodate the space requirements for the new INTO Center, and our Hofstra Career Center. The University anticipates a project completion schedule that will open and occupy the renovated facility by August 2020.

  • Gallon Wing- Physician Assistant Program expansion and space improvements
  • New Engineering School Environmental Assessment

Sustainable Building and Energy Management

Facilities and Operations demonstrates and supports Hofstra's longstanding commitment to sustainable practices. Some recent projects include:

  • Hofstra is an EPA Green Power Partner and purchases 30% green power annually.
  • Over 100 bottle filling stations are located across the campus. The first station was installed in 2009.
  • Expanded collection of recyclables throughout the campus.
  • Lighting Upgrades- Hofstra is continually converting to LED lighting in indoor campus spaces. Improvements to the campus entryways, roadways and parking areas are currently underway.
  • Three electric vehicle charging stations installed on campus.
  • REV Campus Challenge Achiever member. The REV Campus Challenge promotes clean energy efforts by recognizing New York State Colleges and Universities that implement clean energy projects and principles on campus, in the classroom and in surrounding communities.
  • The USGBC (US Green Building Council) LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification was awarded for the extension of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell extension in May 2016. The Frank G. Zarb School of Business extension project, connecting to the CV Starr building with a second-floor bridge, was also  designed and built to LEED Silver Certification standard, with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
