Hofstra Facilities and Operations is dedicated to ongoing maintenance and support of the Hofstra campus for living and learning.
- East Pedestrian Bridge Closure - April 24-July 15
The East Pedestrian Bridge (Connecting the Hagedorn Hall Lot to the Hofstra Bubble Lot) will be closed beginning Monday, April 24, 2017, and will remain closed until Saturday July 15, 2017. During this time, the bridge staircases at both the North and South Entrances will be completely replaced.
- Axinn Library Third Floor
The Center for Academic Excellence will be relocated from the second floor. The expanded space will include staff offices, tutoring/study/conference rooms and a large central area with fixed and movable furnishings and AV/IT Technology. Completion is expected by Summer 2017.
- Colonial Square Townhouse Renovations
The $25 million major capital improvement project to fully renovate our Netherlands and Colonial Square Residential Townhouses. Over the past three years, the university completed renovation of fifteen of the 25 townhouses. In Summer 2017 five townhouses in Colonial Square will have renovation of common lounge and kitchens, bathroom upgrades, new HVAC units, suite and lounge furniture and LED lighting throughout the buildings. Work will continue on the remaining five townhouses over the 2018 summer to complete the project. The Netherlands North Court buildings were renovated in the Summer 2016.
- John Cranford Adams Playhouse Toni and Martin Sosnoff Theater
A two year project to renovate the interior theater space was completed in summer 2016, and the entrance lobby will be expanded and fully renovated in the summer of 2017.
- Residential Towers
The four-year capital project to renovate all Student Resident Hall bathrooms and upgrade of the building elevators will be completed with Bill of Rights and Estabrook Halls in the Summer of 2017.
- Gittleson Hall
Corridor LED lighting retrofit and lab upgrades will be completed during the 2017/2018 school year.
- Zarb School of Business Extension
The 52,000 square foot building adjacent to CV Starr Hall will serve to house the Zarb School of Business administration, faculty and Career Center offices, as well as student collaborative, small group study and the new Center for Entrepreneurship. Expected completion of the project is the Fall 2018.
- Student Center Lower Level
A complete renovation of the Student Center lower level area converting the old Rathkellar into the Pride Den, a modern multi-use student lounge space and student meeting room was completed. View photos of the renovation in the Facilities and Operations photo file!
- South Campus Parking
A new parking field with 209 spaces is located on the southeast corner of the campus with entrances from Uniondale Avenue.
- Axinn Library HVAC Systems
A two year project is underway to replace HVAC piping throughout the Axinn Library. The time frame for completion is Spring 2018.
- Sustainable Energy Management
Facilities and Operations supports Hofstra’s longstanding commitment to sustainable practices. Current Projects include have included the first planned LEED-certified Silver School of Medicine expansion, the installation of over 70 bottle filling stations, expanded recycle collection throughout the campus, LED light-emitting diode (LED) lighting upgrades, electric vehicles charging stations (3) and transportation innovations are all underway. - Hofstra/ Northwell Health School of Medicine Extension

In conjunction with the Northwell Health network, Hofstra University completed the 63,000 square foot building expansion to the existing Hofstra/ North Shore LIJ School of Medicine in January 2015. It is the first planned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building on the Hofstra campus. LEED is a green building certification that recognizes best-in-class building strategy and practice. The original medical school facility houses 16 flexible learning areas, a 238-seat Medical Education Theater, a health sciences library, a structure lab and a full-service café.
- Adams and Weed Hall Renovation
An ongoing $12 million facilities renovation began in 2012, the inaugural year of the School of Engineering and Applies Sciences. Existing laboratories and classrooms received new technologies, machinery, and equipment, all of which are accessible to trained undergraduate engineering and computer science students. - University College Hall
Construction was completed in 2015 to relocate the Hofstra Wellness Center from Republic Hall, along with the offices and classrooms of the University College for Continuing Education.
