Hofstra Wireless Policy

Wireless networks are a critical part of Hofstra’s infrastructure. To protect the integrity and security of this infrastructure for the common use of the Hofstra community certain restrictions are required.

Wireless Restrictions:

  • Only Hofstra’s Information Technology department may install wireless technology of any kind on the Hofstra campus. This includes, but is not limited to, Wi‐Fi routers, Wi‐Fi hotspots, Wi‐Fi access points, Wi‐Fi bridges, Wi‐Fi repeaters, Wi‐Fi printers, ad‐hoc networks, and the use of software that enables any similar functionality.
  • Interference with the operation of Hofstra’s Wi‐Fi network in prohibited on Hofstra’s campus. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of jamming devices, removal or modification of any Hofstra installed access point, sustained high‐bandwidth Wi‐Fi usage, and the use of software to interfere with normal Wi‐Fi operations.
  • Any activity that compromises the security of the Wi‐Fi infrastructure is prohibited.
  • Hofstra reserves the right to disable, any device on campus that interferes with the wireless infrastructure either deliberately or accidentally. This includes, but is not limited to, the devices mentioned above as well as microwave ovens, cordless phones, wireless cameras, as well as various other consumer wireless products that can, under some circumstances, interfere with enterprise Wi‐Fi infrastructures.
