How To Use Your Meridian Telephone

To Place a Call

  • Pick up handset to get dial tone
  • On Campus: Dial 5-digit extension number
  • Off Campus: Dial 9 + telephone number
  • When your party answers begin speaking

For Handsfree Dialing

  • Press an idle extension to get dial tone
  • On Campus: Dial 5-digit extension number
  • Off Campus: Dial 9 + telephone number
  • When your party answers, lift your handset OR if you have a 16 button telephone, just begin speaking

To Answer a Call

Pick up the handset and begin speaking OR if you have a 16 button speaker telephone, press the key next to the flashing diamond and begin speaking.

If you receive a call on your second line, while on your first line, press the key next to the flashing diamond (your first call will automatically be put on hold).

To End a Call

Hang up the handset or press the orange RLS key

To Place a Call on Hold

Press the HOLD key, the diamond will flash next to the held extension key. To return to the held party, press the key next to the flashing diamond.

Transfer a Call Using Your CONF/TRANS Key

While connected to a call:

  • Press the CONF/TRANS key (the party is put on hold)
  • Dial the 5-digit extension number of the person you wish to transfer the call to
  • When the called party answers, announce the call then press the CONF/TRANS key again, and hang up

If the calling party does not answer, press the orange RLS key then press the key next to the flashing diamond and you will be re-connected to the original caller.

Conference 3-Way

  • Call your first party (this can be an internal or external call)
  • Press the CONF/TRANS key; this will put your 1st party on hold
  • You will then hear a dial tone on the same line
  • Call your next party (internal or external)
  • Announce the conference call, and press the CONF/TRANS key to connect all three parties

Conference 6-Way  (Using a Feature Code)

NOTE: You must plan a conference call in advance when using the feature code

  • Pick up handset or press idle extension to get dial tone
  • Dial *87 (you will hear a special dial tone)
  • Dial your 1st party (this can be an internal or external call) When your party answers you will automatically be connected
  • Press CONF/TRANS key, then *87
  • To add 2nd party, press CONF/TRANS key
  • Dial 2nd party's number (internal or external) and announce call
  • Press CONF/TRANS again, then *87 (all 3 parties are connected)

Repeat last three steps until all parties are on the conference call. You can have up to 6 people (including yourself) on one conference call.

NOTE: If one of the called parties does not answer, press the orange RLS key and return to your established call be pressing the extension key next to the flashing diamond.

Last Number Redial

  • Lift handset or select idle extension to get dial tone
  • Press the # key twice; the last number you dialed will automatically be redialed

Speed Call - 30 (For 16 Button Telephone)

Each user can store 30 numbers on ONE speed dial key. You will assign a code number from 00 thru 29 for each speed call number.

To Program:

  • Without lifting your handset, press the SPEED CALLkey
  • Choose and dial a 2-digit code between 00 and 29
  • Dial 9 + the off campus telephone number to be stored or the 5-digit on campus extension number to be stored
  • Press the SPEED CALL key again

To Use:

  • Press an idle extension or pick up handset to get dial tone
  • Press the SPEED CALL key
  • Dial the 2-digit code you assigned to the number you wish to dial

Speed call - 30 (For 8 Button Telephones)

Each user can store 30 numbers using a feature code. You will assign a code number from 00 thru 29 for each speed call number.

To Program:

  • Lift handset or press an idle extension to get dial tone
  • Dial *58
  • Choose and dial a 2-digit code between 00 and 29
  • Dial 9 + the off campus telephone number to be stored or the 5-digit on campus extension number to be stored
  • End with the # key (you will hear confirmation tone and the phone will automatically disconnect)

To Use:

  • Lift handset or press an idle extension to get dial tone
  • Press * plus the 2-digit code you assigned to the number you wish to dial

Forward

To forward you phone calls to another location within the University:

  • Press the FORWARD key (you will see a flashing diamond)
  • Enter the 5-digit extension number you wish to forward your phone to
  • Press the FORWARD key again (diamond will go steady)
  • To Cancel: Press the FORWARD key once (diamond will disappear)
  • To Reinstate Last Number Forwarded: Press the FORWARD key 2 times (diamond will go steady)

Group Intercom (Ring)

To call somone in your intercom group:

  • Lift the handset OR keep the handset down if using a 16 button telephone
  • Press the INTERCOM key
  • Dial the 2-digit intercom number of the person you wish to speak with
  • You will begin speaking when the other party presses their INTERCOM key

Group Intercom (Voice)

  • Lift the handset OR keep handset down if using a 16 button telephone
  • Press the INTERCOM key
  • Dial the 2-digit intercom number of the person you wish to speak with
  • Hit the INTERCOM key again and begin speaking

Group intercom numbers will be assigned as the last 2-digits of your extension number where possible.

Message Key

To retrieve your messages from voicemail, press the MESSAGE key. The voicemail number 3-5000 will automatically be dialed.

Call Pick Up

To pick up a ringing phone within your pick up group:

  • Press an idle extension key or lift your handset
  • Press the CALL PICKUP key (you will be connected to the call)

If multiple phones in your group are ringing simultaneously, depressing the PICKUP key on your phone will pick up one of the ringing calls. To pick up another call within your group, you must put the first call on hold, press another idle extension key on your phone and press the PICKUP key again.

To Park a Call

While connected to a call:

  • Press the PARK key
  • After you hear a confirmation tone, hang up

To retrieve a parked call:

  • Go to any phone, lift the handset and press the PARK key
  • Dial the extension number of the phone where you parked the call (you will automatically be connected to the parked call)

If a parked call is not answered within 90 seconds, it will recall to the phone it was parked from.

Malicious Call Trace

If you receive an abusive or malicious call:

  • While connected to the call, press the CONF/TRANS key then dial *55 and hang up
  • Then dial public Safety at extension 3-6606 and report the call
