Description: Hofstra University Library seeks to fill an opening for Senior Library Assistant. Reporting to the Head of Resource and Collection services, the Senior Library Assistant coordinates work of Resource Sharing unit working with the Senior Supervisor. Using ILLiad and OCLC Worldshare (resource sharing software), processes borrowing and lending requests. Processes incoming ILLiad borrowing requests, routes as appropriate, identifies and obtains materials requested. Utilizes a variety of online bibliographic resources to confirm citations, process and monitor requests to and from Hofstra University Library. Monitors compliance with copyright regulations. Contacts patrons via ILLiad email or telephone with questions concerning submission, verification, retrieval, and delivery of materials. Answers questions related to resource sharing in person, via email, or via telephone. Oversees billing and payments related to overdue items and borrowing charges not covered by reciprocal agreements. Works with the Head of Resource and Collection Services to review and employ policies and procedures governing the exchange of materials with other institutions. Maintains proficiency with resource sharing software (ILLiad, Odyssey, IDS logic, etc.) and stays informed of updates and new releases. Assists users at Circulation desk as needed, using Sierra library management system to process transactions. Supervises student assistants as needed. May perform other assigned duties not specifically identified above, but which require the same degree of skill and which are normally included within the above job title.

Work schedule: Monday - Friday 10am - 6pm

Qualifications: This position requires demonstrable experience with ILLiad software and searching online bibliographic utilities. Incumbent must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and well-organized. Proficiency with Sierra library management system preferred. MS Word, Excel and Outlook is required. The incumbent will be familiar with scanning software and Adobe Acrobat for document editing. Two years of recent, relevant library experience are strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment and to work independently. Ability to organize work flow and manage projects efficiently.
