Description: The Office for Development and Alumni Affairs serves as the liaison between Hofstra University and 130,000 alumni worldwide. The staff develops and implements programs to keep alumni informed about the institution’s vision and progress, promotes their involvement in the University, and generates increased alumni support for Hofstra University and its mission.

The Director of Alumni Affairs will report to the Executive Director for Alumni Affairs. In addition to managing staff, s/he will direct a comprehensive program that fosters mutually supportive roles between the University and its alumni at the school and college level. S/he will manage approximately five academic affinity groups and hundreds of volunteers through the various components of volunteer management: identification, recruitment, event planning, fund raising, leadership succession, etc, in addition to other projects as needed.

The Director will carry a portfolio of approximately 250 prospects and will have an annual financial and request goal and be responsible for moving prospects through the development continuum. Additionally, the Director will serve as a liaison to at least one of the University’s schools and colleges, working with the Dean and an advisory board to grow fundraising efforts and alumni outreach.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Four to six years of experience in development and alumni affairs or related fields. S/he should demonstrate leadership ability and experience in both volunteer management and staff supervision. Also required are demonstrated knowledge of project coordination, marketing and event planning; and experience with Web-based services as well as print and electronic publications. The eventual director must have superior written, oral and interpersonal skills in addition to strong organizational and time management skills. It will be helpful for a candidate to have fund raising or sales experience, and to be experienced with SCT/Banner and the Microsoft Office suite. This person must be willing to travel and to work evenings and weekends.
