Description: Hofstra Law School, located in Hempstead, NY, seeks applicants for the position of Director of the Law Library. The library director oversees all aspects of library operations and services, including external relations, budget development and management, personnel management, strategic planning, and legal-research curriculum development and teaching. He or she reports to the dean of the law school and supervises 6 law librarians and 6 administrative staff members.

The primary function of the Deane Law Library is to support the teaching and research activities of the law school community, which consists of approximately 800 J.D. and 100 students enrolled in our non-J.D. graduate programs, 45 full-time faculty members and 70 support staff. The Hofstra law faculty is recognized as one of the most productive in the country.

The library has long been committed to a specific philosophy: providing the highest quality of service to the law faculty and students, emphasizing service over collection size.

The Director of the Library at Hofstra Law has faculty status and is appointed on a continuing appointment track with rank commensurate with experience and qualifications. This may include, but does not require, appointment to the tenure-track faculty, depending on the interests and experience of the successful candidate.

Qualifications: A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an M.L.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program are required. The successful candidate must have at least three to five years of experience in an academic law library as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.
