Description: The Assistant Teacher is responsible for following the procedure and schedule set forth by the staff in the classroom, as well as assisting in the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management, and in carrying out the mission set forth by the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and Hofstra University. The Assistant Teacher will fulfill the role of the classroom teacher in his/her absence. Candidates must show evidence of the following abilities: understanding and respect for children, their developmental needs and interests; respect for a child’s family and culture; and commitment of continued professional development.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or in pursuit of Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred. The candidate shall possess prior experience working with young children in a child care setting. Candidates with prior experience working with infants and toddlers in a child care setting are preferred.
Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards and New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYSOCFS) regulations preferred.
