Description: Reporting to the Associate Director, the Assistant Director is primarily responsible for all aspects of the tuition collection of delinquent accounts to minimize bad debt exposure. To track progress and outcomes of agencies and initiatives, this position is responsible for developing reports with IT personnel and producing reports on a regular and ad hoc basis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Planning and coordinating the collection timeline
• Investigating and responding to accounts in dispute
• Counseling students on repayment options
• Thoroughly reviewing files for completeness before sending to a collection agency
• Overseeing internal and external collection portfolios
• Facilitating communication with the agencies
• Collaborating within the department and other University personnel as needed to ensure that deadlines are achieved on all tasks
• Supervise and cross train team members
• Acting as back up to the Associate Director and the Student Accounts team with all collection tasks
• Overseeing the University’s Federal cohort default rate and establishing policies and practices, written process narratives and updated written procedures associated with these tasks

In addition, this position will set work priorities, prepare annual performance reviews for staff and monitor the completion of assigned goals. The candidate will perform other duties not specifically identified above, but which require the same degree of skills and which are normally included within the above job title.

Candidates must be able to organize and handle all aspects of administration and adhere to the rules and regulations of Hofstra University, the Colonial Athletic Conference and the NCAA.

This position may be required to work additional hours during peak periods. Evening and weekend hours may be required in support of special projects and events.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, a minimum of two-three years of Collection’s and supervisory experience are required. An understanding of procedures, policies and federal/state laws relating to consumer debt collection are required. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products including Excel and Access, are preferred.

This position requires an individual with excellent communication and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will be well organized, detail oriented, motivated, a team player and have demonstrated the ability to independently and effectively prioritize multiple projects and be an effective leader. Must be capable of managing high volume and complex situations.
