Description:
|
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain campus landscape including litter and trash removal, plant collections, turf and athletic
fields, stadium cleanup, parking fields, snow/ice cleanup and control.
• Installation of new and renovation of existing landscapes. Apply herbicides and pesticides in
accordance with all applicable New York State code, rules and University procedures. Set-up and breakdown of outdoor campus events. Operate tools and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Knowledge of materials and procedures relating to grounds maintenance including fencing,
grading, irrigation, fertilization, aeration; laws and regulations pertaining to the proper mixing of pesticides, their application and safety precautions; horticulture (i.e. soil preparation, seeding,
plants, ,turf care, tree care,); safe working methods and procedures.
• Must be familiar with the care, operation and maintenance of hand and power gardening tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to repeatedly lift at least 50 pounds, work vibrating hand-held power tools for extended
periods, perform kneeling, bending and squatting motions for extended times, and the ability to
work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
• Work overtime as required by the collective bargaining agreement for project work, snow storms, maintenance and campus emergencies.
• Must be able to communicate (written and verbal) and interact effectively with a broad range of
co-workers, staff, students and visitors. The ability to read and understand pesticide labels,
machinery safety manuals and new information related to horticultural practices is required.
• The ability to accurately understand work orders, diagrams, Material Safety Data Sheets and
other work related documents is required.
• Background check required.
Hours:
Split Shift - Wednesday through Sunday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

| Qualifications: |
Minimum of three years proven experience in horticulture or related field. High school diploma required, Associates degree or higher preferred. Must possess and maintain a current and valid drivers’ license and a N.Y.S. Pesticide Applicator license. CNLP certification is a plus.
