Community-Based Research Committee
Mission of the Community-Based Research Committee
Community-based research is generally regarded as a project that includes community members in designing, implementing, analyzing, and/or using the research; involves an equal partnership between the researcher and the community; and empowers the community through the research.
The members of the CBR committee seek to draw upon Hofstra’s growing research capacity to support faculty and student engagement in community-based work. We are a resource for those wanting to learn more about community-based research. In addition our committee will be a forum for sharing CBR ideas and experiences, coordinating research projects, and cooperating to promote ethical research practices. We will also work with the CCE Grants’ committee and the Office of the Provost to support CBR at Hofstra.
This website includes a range of online resources, including a guide to recent and current Hofstra CBR projects. As CCE-affiliated faculty, we commit to high ethical standards that respect individuals, groups, and communities. We have accordingly included materials related to the protection of human subjects in the course of faculty- and student-conducted community-based research. Members of the committee are available to come to classes or meet with research teams to discuss community-based research.
