The Global Studies and Geography Department is pleased to announce that Jenna Reda is the 2020 recipient of the Masaharu G. Inaba Endowed Memorial Scholarship.
A rising senior, Jenna is pursuing a triple major in English, Geography, and Global Studies, and a minor in Spanish. She has been a peer teacher in our Department, works as a student aid at the Hofstra Saltzman Center, and as a resident assistant in Alliance Hall. She has been heavily involved in the Hofstra community, having served on the board of the Hofstra Residence Hall Association, and is a member of the community service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, where she is on the fraternity's service committee, resulting in her spending most of her weekends volunteering at various locations around Long Island. She is also a member of the university’s Honors College, and was recently inducted into Mu Kappa, the Geography Honors Society, and into Phi Beta Kappa.
Hailing from Pennsylvania, she has interned at the Mercer County (PA) Conservation District, where she helped conduct environmental programs relating to geography, at the City of Hermitage Parks and Recreation Department and also at her hometown police department. Following graduation, she plans to go to graduate school to earn a master’s degree in either international relations or global security, so that she can pursue her career goal of working in public service, preferably with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
Donated by the Inaba family in memory of the late Dr. George Inaba, who taught geography at Hofstra from 1959 to 1983, this scholarship award amount ranges between $6,000 and $8,000. It is awarded annually to Global Studies and Geography majors and is in addition to any other financial awards that a student receives.
