Graduate Counseling Programs

Graduate Counseling Programs

Hofstra University's graduate programs in counseling are offered by the Long Island, New York campus.

Our programs in School or College Student Development Counseling and Mental Health Counseling prepare individuals to work as professional counselors and human service practitioners in a variety of settings and with a variety of populations across the lifespan. These professional preparation programs are committed to preparing multiculturally-competent practitioners who will be equipped to promote the mental health and personal efficacy of their clients and contribute to the improvement of social and educational systems. Program graduates qualify for work in schools, colleges, business and human service organizations, and their own practice depending on which degree program and specialization track is completed.

The U.S. News and World Report ranked Mental Health CounselorsSchool Counselors, and Substance Abuse Counselors among the "Best Social Service Jobs for 2017."

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that employment of Mental Health Counselors and Substance Abuse Counselors is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations in coming years.  O*Net lists employment for Substance Abuse Counselors as having a Bright Outlook.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation to the Mental Health Counseling (MA) program at Hofstra University.
