Athletic Training program


This undergraduate major program is designed to prepare students for employment in the profession of athletic training. The curriculum is designed to meet the entry-level athletic training competencies and proficiencies identified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Education Council. It is also designed in accordance with the requirements established by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Hofstra University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program has been placed on Probation as of February 11, 2020, by the CAATE, 6850 Austin Center Blvd, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3184 (512) 733-9700. Admission to the professional phase of the program is competitive.

All students interested in majoring in Athletic Training must be appropriately admitted to Hofstra University either as a freshman or transfer.  You can apply to the university using the Hofstra University Online Application or using the Common Application.  Upon your acceptance to Hofstra University be sure to state your intention to major in Athletic Training so that the University Advisement Office can make the appropriate course registration recommendations.  You will initially be advised to take courses associated with the Pre-Athletic Training Phase during your first year.  It is also recommended that you follow up with ATP faculty to confirm your registration.

For transfers it will be important for you to contact the Athletic Training Program faculty to discuss potential transfer courses and credits in order to accurately and efficiently advise you regarding progression through the ATP.
