Creative Arts Therapy

MA in Creative Arts Therapy

This graduate program is offered by the Long Island, New York campus of Hofstra University.

The Creative Arts Therapy program is a 53 credit Master of Arts degree and has been approved by the American Art Therapy Association since 1984. The program prepares graduates to be eligible for the License in Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT) in New York state. Graduates also work toward their Art Therapy Registration (ATR) and can become a Board Certified Art Therapist (-BC).

The program is designed to prepare students as professional art therapists through focused clinical art therapy education. The learning experience includes introduction of theory through lecture and discussion, application of approach and media techniques, and field experiences through practicum and internship. There are also a variety of electives that expose students to a selection of expressive therapies and various populations. Students can also choose to take elective courses in related licensure programs while enrolled in the Creative Arts Therapy program.

Hofstra faculty personally advise all students through a personal Plan of Study to develop a curriculum that meets each student's needs. Our students are able to develop specific areas of interest and their professional identity as an art therapist.
