Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How many credits are required toward the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences?
    The University requirement for speech-language majors is 124 semester hours for the B.A. degree, which includes 41 semester hours in the major area as follows: SPCH 5A, 6, 8, 9, 10, 101A, 102A, 103, 131, 132, 133, 134, 137, 138. In addition, at least one course in behavioral/social science, one course in biology, one course in physical science, one course in math and one course in statistics (PSY 40) is required.
  2. How many credits are required toward the minor in the Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences?
    As a minor in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences, you are required to take 18 s.h. of SPCH classes including: SPCH 5A, 6, 9, and 137, and 6 s.h. from SPCH 8, 10, 101A, 102A, and 103, with at least 3 s.h. from SPCH 10 or 101A or 102A.  Please note that pre-requisite course overrides are never issued to Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences minors.
  3. How will I be assigned an advisor?
    When you declare Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences as your major, please visit the departmental office located in Room 106 of Davison Hall.  The Department Secretary will help you fill out a change of major form and assign you an advisor.
  4. What kinds of grades do I need to advance in the undergraduate program?
    A minimum of C- is required in a prerequisite course to progress onto the next course. If the student does not meet this minimum requirement, the class must be taken over.
  5. Are scholarships available for undergraduate students?
