Advance Your Career with a Master's in Public Relations
The Master of Arts (MA) in Public Relations at Hofstra University is a professional public relations program designed to prepare students for fast-evolving strategic communications jobs by emphasizing critical thinking and problem solving, exceptional writing skills, and the innovative digital tools required for a successful career in the public relations profession. The program is designed for students to become immediately qualified to assume a variety of communications positions and enhanced leadership roles in numerous industries.
Public Relations graduate students have the option to earn their degree as weeknight students OR Saturday-only students
Each course will meet once a week for 15 weeks on weeknights during late afternoon or early evening. Some classes will be offered online. Courses run throughout the calendar year including fall, spring, summer, and winter sessions. Full-time students (9 credits per semester) complete the program in four semesters. The Saturday MA in PR may be completed in 16 months. Each course will meet once a week on Saturdays; for three semesters students will attend classes on Saturday mornings and afternoons for seven weeks, followed by one Saturday morning class for five weeks. Students will also take online and hybrid summer session classes and an online winter session class. Other courses will be offered online or as independent study. Public Relations Master's Program Highlights
- Students take core public relations courses in fundamentals, storytelling, media relations, research, media literacy; reputation and crisis management, social media and innovative technology, business essentials, and international relations.
- Elective coursework is offered through the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations; Hofstra’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business; and other disciplines.
- The master's curriculum includes several electives including an internship or independent study. A capstone project is required of all students completing the degree.
